Distracted Driving

It seems that drivers today are more distracted than ever before. In addition to the normal everyday stressors, we have added technology to the mix. How many times have you seen a driver next you talking on the phone or, worse, texting? The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that in 2018, due to distracted driving, 2,841 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes and an additional 400,000 people were injured. 10% of all fatal crashes have involved a distracted driver.  71% of all young drivers have admitted to texting while driving (NHTSA). You are sharing a road with these distracted drivers who pose a threat to you and your pet.  Learn more about distracted driving.

Or what if it's you...

What if you are the distracted driver? Our furry friends can pose a huge distraction, too. Taking your eyes off the road for only two seconds increases your risk of an accident by 50%. According to a AAA survey, 29% of drivers admitted to being distracted by their pet while driving, and 65% stated they have allowed their pet to sit on their lap or have fed or played with their pet while driving.  View the survey.

The hard truth about automobile accidents...

It is almost certain that at some point in your life, you will be involved in an accident.  Further, the Insurance Institute estimates that you will have an accident at least once every 19 years.  While most accidents will not prove fatal, there is a high probability that you will be injured, and the rate of injury increases exponentially if you do not wear a seat belt. The same risk applies if you don't buckle up your pet.

In a 30 mph crash, an unrestrained pet will become a projectile, impacting whatever is in its path with over 30 times its body weight. In a collision, a laptop can be lethal; a can of soup can crack your skull.  Imagine the injury an 80 pound dog can do...

HOW PREPARED ARE YOU FOR AN ACCIDENT?

JUST OUT FOR A JOYRIDE

Watch this simulation of what could happen to your pet, if you have an accident, and your pet is not restrained.

WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE A CRASH-TESTED RESTRAINT

This video changed how I transport Bear. She used to ride around in a cage just like this, until I saw this video.

DON'T CHOOSE THE WRONG RESTRAINT

This is what can happen when you choose a harness or carrier that is not crash safety tested. You put your pet and yourself in harm's way.

UNRESTRAINED CARGO CAN KILL YOU

This video illustrates how dangerous unrestrained cargo is in an accident.

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR PET AND YOUR FAMILY

Buckle up your pet with a crash-tested harness, carrier or crate and rest assured that you are doing what you can to protect ALL lives within your vehicle.
